AFCON 2025: Morocco Celebrates Football legend, Roger Milla

Former Cameroonian striker and African football legend, Roger Milla has been honoured with a distinction.

Roger Milla received the honors during a conference organized in the Moroccan city of Agadir to recognize his exploits in football.

The key role played by Cameroon’s 9 shirts, Roger Milla in 1988 when Morocco hosted it’s first AFCON was vividly remembered especially by those who lived the experience.

The African Football legend is being celebrated in Morocco 37 years later, as the country hosts the football jamboree again.

The legend is welcomed Moroccan traditional music.

The Football legend, shared his football journey with crowds of youths at the Agadir University of Health Science, inspiring young Africans to stay focused, determined and disciplined in order to succeed.

Besides receiving an Award, the Roving Ambassador Roger Milla received accolades from Moroccans who hold him in high esteem, describing him as a role model.

During the final of the 1988 AFCON against Nigeria in Casablanca, Milla was at the origin of the penal that gave Cameroon a win and the second title following a 1-0 win over Nigeria.

At the end of the competition, he was named Player of the Tournament and ranked amongst the top scorers with two goals.

After the showdown in Morocco, Milla’s endearing and impactful performance continued at the 1990 World Cup where he entertained the globe with his iconic dance after each goal.
