Ministry Of Basic Education Outlines Key Priorities For upcoming 2024 Back To School Season At Preparatory Meeting.

Staff of the Basic Education sector have been congratulated for their excellent performance during the just-ended school year, which saw overall better examination results than the previous year.

The Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, was speaking while officially opening the consultation meeting of heads of Central and devolved services of his ministry.

The meeting was organised ahead of the effective kick-off of the 2024/2025 school year.

The ceremony took place Thursday August 8, 2024, at the Cameroon Red Cross Center.

The Basic Education Boss gave statistics on the performance in the last examination session.

He disclosed that “I would like to highlight the results obtained in the last examination session. With success rates of 89.15% for the Primary School Certificate, compared to 88.49% in 2023; 97.42% for the First School Leaving Certificate, compared to 95.75% in 2023; and 93.04% for the Common Entrance, compared to 91% in 2023. As you can see, there has been a significant improvement in our results beyond the current situation and beyond the information that has been circulating. The school year at the Ministry of Basic Education has been essentially calm.”

The minister further stated, “In drawing up this assessment of the 2023-2024 school year, it will be up to us to capitalize on our strengths, and to learn lessons from the weaknesses, and the different strategies mobilized, implemented in the context of the achievement of our objectives. The new school year should allow us to move forward, to do better, and to envisage more. This is therefore the place and the moment to congratulate you once again for all these generally satisfactory results to which we are favored.”

The consultation meeting witnessed an evaluation of the past school year 2023/2024 alongside projecting into the running of the upcoming new school year and elaborating appropriate strategies to ensure a smooth and serene school year.

During the session, various themes were elaborated.

It included “transforming our schools with responsible educational staff delivering quality education in a safe and protective environment,” “Bilingual Education: challenges and solutions for the 2024 session,” as well as reports on the state of preparedness and prospects for the 2024/2025 school year, in terms of inclusive Education implementation and the operation of the distribution of excellence scholarships to the best students at the Certificate D’études Premier and First School Leaving Certificate.
