The revision of electoral rolls for the 2025 exercise officially kicked off on Monday, January 6, 2025, in Mbankomo, Centre Region. The Director General of Elections Cameroon, Erik Essousse, launched the process, which is expected to update the national electoral roll ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

The atmosphere at the divisional branches of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) was calm and orderly. At the Yaoundé 1 council branch, citizens visited to verify their names on the 2024 electoral rolls, report changes in residence, and register on the electoral list.

Kamssue Dimitry Duplex, a Yaounde resident, expressed his enthusiasm for registering on the electoral roll. “It’s a right and a duty to vote as a Cameroonian citizen. So, I decided to come and register on the electoral roll ahead of the upcoming 2025 election,” he told CRTV Web after registering at the Yaoundé 1 Council branch of ELECAM.

National Electoral File Update

According to the General Directorate of Elections, the definitive national electoral roll counted 7,845,622 registered Cameroonians as of December 30, 2024. This includes 4,207,957 men and 3,637,665 women. The total number of registered voters for the year that just ended is higher compared to 2023, which recorded 7.3 million registered voters.

The definitive lists are already available for consultation at ELECAM’s divisional branches. Cameroonians abroad can access the lists through diaspora focal points. ELECAM teams plan to conduct extensive mobile registration caravans to facilitate the registration process.
