The President of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission, James Mouangue Kobila has called on Cameroonians not to turn a deaf ear on the violation of the right to education, to having a birth certificate and to access to healthcare amongst others.
He was talking at the end of an event to mark the 76th International Human Rights Day in Yaounde this 10th December, 2024.
The Human Rights Scribe added that in Cameroon, terrorism accounts for most of the violation of human rights. This is visible in the three regions in the country which are affected by crisis.
He frowned at acts of terrorism in Cameroon, stating that they violate the right to education, health, speech, do business, physical integrity and life.
On the other hand too, James Mouangue Kobila noted that countering tourism is also sometimes a source of violation of human rights.
With this year’s theme of focus being, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, the event highlighted strides the Cameroon Human Rights Commission has achieved in fighting the violation of human rights through its partner institutions.
The event was also forum to listen to the reading of Universal Declaration of Human Rights in some local languages, an act which received wide acclaim.
A highpoint of the day was the presentation of a sketch which focused on reporting Gender-based violence which is one of the forms of the violation of human rights. The sketch presented the toll-free number, 1513 to those in distress.
