As climate change continues to threaten ecosystems and livelihoods, Cameroon is taking significant strides toward protecting its forests while promoting sustainable economic growth.

This is focus of the 25th Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) in Yaounde that opened this 3rd December 2024 in Yaounde.

The session highlighted Cameroon’s goals to combat deforestation and enhance green development.

This meeting chaired by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey signals the next phase of Cameroon’s partnership with CAFI, aiming to preserve nearly 40% of its forested territory, promote deforestation-free agriculture, and contribute to global climate action efforts.

The partnership, marked by a Letter of Intent signed in October 2024, focuses on integrating sustainable farming practices, empowering local communities, and ensuring the protection of nearly 40% of Cameroon’s woodlands.

With an initial 2.5 billion dollars commitment, the collaboration between Cameroon and CAFI will strengthen the country’s capacity for green growth, aligning with international climate goals and fostering resilience in local communities.

By combining economic development with forest conservation, Cameroon is paving the way for a future where prosperity and environmental protection grow together.
