Public Health : Three Hospitals in Yaoundé Get New Directors-General

The Yaoundé General Hospital, the Yaoundé Teaching Hospital Centre and the Yaoundé Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospitals now have new Directors -General.

Prof. Noël Emmanuel Essomba, former Director of the Douala Laquitinine Hospital was appointed Director of the Yaoundé General Hospital, Prof. Vincent de Paul Ndjientcheu , former Director of the Yaoundé General Hospital moves  to the Yaoundé Teaching Hospital and Che Kingsley Soh, former Regional Delegate of Public Health for the North West Region, now heads the Yaoundé Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital.

The hospital administrators were appointed by Presidential Decree on Monday 25th November, 2024.

The New Hospital Administrators 

Prof. Noel Emmanuel Essomba is a seasoned health professional with many years of experience to his credit. In 2001, he obtained  a PHD degree from the University of Yaoundé 1. Five years later, he enrolled at the Henri Poincaré University in Nancy I where he obtained a 3rd cycle diploma in infectious Diseases / HIV Infection. He went on to obtain a university diploma in forensic expertise, and a Master’s degree in public health from the same university one year later.

He returned to Cameroon in 2010, and enrolled at the School of Economic and Social Sciences in Douala where he obtained a Master of Business administration (MBA). Prof. Noel Emmanuel Essomba has been the Director of the Douala Laquintinine Hospital for the last four years, and now moves from this second degree hospital to the  Yaoundé General Hospital, a first degree hospital. Before being Director of the Laquintinine hospital, he served as the Director of the Nylon District Hospital.  A new Director is still to be appointed to replace him at the Douala Laquintinine Hospital.

The new Director General is also a Senior University lecturer and lecturer at the National School of Administration and Magistracy ( ENAM).

As he takes over this new leadership position, Prof. Noel Emmanuel will be expected to give the Yaoundé General Hospital a face lift and improve the quality of services offered to patients in the health facility.

Prof. Vincent de Paul Ndjientcheu

Prof. Vincent de Paul Ndjientcheu has been the Director General of the Yaoundé General Hospital for the last six years. He was appointed in 2018 to replace Prof. Elie Claude Ndam Ndjitoyap.

The University lecturer now becomes the Director General of the Yaoundé University Teaching Hospital, another first category health facility. The skilled neurologist is also  the President of the Cameroon Academy of Neurologists. He replaces Prof. Fèlicien Ntone Ntone who held the office for one year.

The seasoned neurologist takes credit for carrying out the first kidney transplant and open heart surgery in Cameroon during his tenure as the Director General of the Yaoundé General Hospital.

He takes up the new role at a time when the Yaounde University Teaching Hospital is  undergoing rehabilitation. Prof. Ndjientcheu will have to continue the rehabilitation and ensure its completion.

Dr. Che Kingsley Soh

Dr. Che Kingsley Soh is the new Director General of the Yaoundé Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hopital. He was appointed by Presidential decree on Monday 25th November, along  with two other hospital administrators.

Before this new responsibility, Dr. Che Kingsley Soh served as the Regional Delegate of Public Health for the North West region. He now heads the first category health facility.

In 2021, Doctor Kingsley Che greatly contributed to the installation of eight hemodialysis machines at the Bamenda Regional Hospital. Many patients in the region had to travel to Bafoussam for medical care owing to the absence of these machines. Dr. Che Kingsley also takes credit for facilitating the implementation of the Universal Health Coverage in the North West Region.

He is faced with the challenge of advancing hygiene and sanitation at Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital, improving  communication between health care professionals and the public, and ultimately preserving the reputation of the health facility as a reference for mother and child care.

The three newly appointed Directors-General will have to live up to the challenge of providing up-to-date healthcare services to thousands of patients as they each take up a new role in these first category hospitals.
