The Audit Bench of the Supreme Court in Cameroon has issued a call to action to Director Generals and Managers of Public Institutions, urging them to take responsibility for implementing its recommendations to improve governance in the country.
This appeal was made at the end of the 30th forum on governance in Cameroon, which was held with the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly on November 25, 2024.
According to Théodore Mbenoun, chairman of the 1st section of the Audit Office, one of the major weaknesses in the current system is the lack of a formal body responsible for passing on the Audit Office’s recommendations to the relevant government officials.
Key Issues and Recommendations
The Audit Office has identified several key issues that need to be addressed in order to improve governance in Cameroon. These include:
– The lack of a formal procedure for referring recommendations to the executive branch
– The absence of a follow-up audit to ensure implementation of recommendations
– The need for greater collaboration between the Audit Office and internal audit departments
To address these issues, the Audit Office has made several recommendations, including:
– Drawing up an audit guide to follow up on recommendations
– Collaborating with the Audit Office and internal audit departments
– Setting up an interministerial body within the executive to monitor the implementation of recommendations.
