Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour Wraps Up in Yaoundé with Belgian Cyclist emerging triumphant

The 24th edition of the Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour concluded on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Belgian cyclist Van Dyck Wesley took home the top honors, successfully defending the Yellow Jersey for four consecutive stages.

“It’s been an incredible journey,” Wesley said. “Each day brought new challenges, but I managed to overcome them.”

The fifth and final stage, spanning 163.5km from Sangmelima to Yaoundé, was won by Belgian cyclist Rutger Wouters.

Honoré YOSSI, President of the Cameroon Cycling Federation, shared his thoughts on the tour’s success. “This edition showcased the best of African cycling, with 11 teams from 9 countries participating.”

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, officiated the closing ceremony, joined by other government officials.

Ongola International Cycling Tour: Algerian Riders Dominate

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Yaoundé hosted the Ongola International Cycling Tour, featuring 61 national and international cyclists competing in a thrilling 105km event.

Moumini Oussama Abdallah from Algeria secured the top spot, leading from start to finish. “My team’s support was instrumental in our victory,” Abdallah said.

Hamza Yacine (Algeria) took second place, while Clovis Kamzong Abessolo emerged as the top Cameroonian cyclist, finishing ninth.

This year’s Chantal Biya Cycling Tour had the participation of Egypt for the first time in the history of the competition.

The Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) also brought a fresh perspective to the Grand Prix Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour with breathtaking aerial footage by using the Military Agosta Helicopter, provided by the President of the Republic of Cameroon, to capture stunning bird’s-eye views of the competition, showcasing Cameroon’s scenic landscapes.
