Today, September 30, 2024 is World Podcast Day, and time to look at the impact podcasts have had on modern-day radio.

To many journalists, podcasts have come to enhance modern-day radio, making it to be more accessible to the audience and reducing its state of being ephemeral.

This is the case for CRTV Journalist who is also a Podcaster, Larry Effande.

“Podcasting has really changed the game for modern radio, and I’ve seen it firsthand as a podcaster and radio journalist at CRTV. With my podcast, ‘People Places and Pulpitry’, I get to share my radio shows and daily motivational segments in a way that truly connects with listeners,” Larry Effande explains.

He adds that what he loves about podcasts is that they offer more personalized, on-demand content as le ople can tune in whenever they want, which is a shift from traditional radio’s set schedules.

“This flexibility lets me explore niche topics that might not get much airtime on regular broadcasts,” Larry emphasises.

In addition, the Journalist indicates that podcasts are a good way to highlight local issues, like the recent floods in Cameroon. To him, they help raise awareness and engage the community in ways that traditional radio sometimes struggles to do.

“It’s exciting to be part of this evolving landscape where we can blend the best of both worlds!“ he excitedly concludes.

Renette Ayuk is another journalist into audio and video podcasting for about three years now.

She agrees with Larry Effande’s point about podcasting offering more on-demand content.

Renette adds, “In this digital age, traditional media must collaborate with digital media to disseminate information to different sets of audiences. We cannot be rigid.”

From the above opinions gathered, it is clear that podcasting is necessary, if radio must keep appealing to all especially as meeting the individual needs of the audience, at their convenience, is important.
