The Ministry of Basic Education( MINEDUB) and eBASE Africa, a multinational collaborative research organisation, have discussed discussed prospects of renewing an existing MOU to strengthen the educational system in Cameroon.

The experts recently met at a workshop in Ebolowa jointly organized both parties. Dr. Oyono Adams, Secretary General of the Ministry of Basic Education chaired the MINEDUB-eBASE Africa meeting.

Oyono Adams, Secretary General of the Ministry of Basic Education chaired the committee meeting between MINEDUB and eBASE Africa.

“We are here to renew the partnership we had with eBASE Africa. We had an earlier partnership whose results were good. We think if we will have better results tomorrow, then it’s good to concert and work in synergy to see how we can align the activities of the Ministry and those of eBASE together to see the added value eBASE is bringing,” Tohmoh Joseph, Technical Adviser No.2 at the Ministry of Basic Education told CRTV WEB.

Limited access to quality education, particularly in rural areas, high rates of poverty, drop out from school, and discrepancies in educational opportunities are some common problems affecting the educational sector in the country.

The ongoing crises in the North West, South West and Northern regions have made matters worse, disrupting access to education for many young people.

The Ministry is seeking the expertise of eBASE Africa to address these problems and chart a course for better educational facilities for children across the country.

“The government alone cannot be able to carry out all the activities in the sector. There is need for help, but when someone is coming in to support, there should be added value,” Mr Tohmoh Joseph Technical Adviser No.2 insists.

The stakeholders rounded up the training with a plan of action jointly developed by competent authorities from the Ministry of Basic Education and eBASE Africa.

“This plan of action will permit us work in tandem with the Ministry of Basic Education to achieve our common goals,” Pambe Rigobert Hanny, Program Manager for Education at eABASE Africa.

The discussions also gave room for specific adjustments to be made to the existing partnership agreement between eBASE Africa and MINEDUB.

The eBASE -Ministry of Basic Education workshop also set out clear and effective reporting mechanisms to facilitate communication and transparency between both parties as they seek to achieve a common goal.

Building schools in enclaved areas and disadvantaged urban centres, accelerating the training of teachers, providing teaching and learning materials for schools are among projects the stakeholders will execute during the partnership.
