OIC: Cameroon Braces up to Host 50th Council of Foreign Ministers

Cameroon is set to welcome the 50th Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) from 29th to 30th August 2024. 

The Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella affirmed this as he addressed the national and international community in a briefing this 20th August 2024 at the Proceedings Hall of the Ministry of External Relations in Yaounde.

Minister Mbella Mbella underscored the fact that this 50th anniversary on the theme, “Development of Intra-OIC Transport and Communication Infrastructure: Major Instrument in the Fight against Poverty and Insecurity” also marks a milestone for Cameroon who is also celebrating 50 years of membership in the OIC.

The briefing was therefore place to explain this year’s theme which seeks to look into the major socio-economic development and security challenges faced by member states.

About the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC

The Council of Foreign Ministers is the second decision-making body of the OIC, after the Summit of Kings, Heads of State and Government (Islamic Summit).

The Council has various missions including examining issues faced by member states, following up of the implementation of decisions adopted during summits, and the election of the Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General, amongst others.

About the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation was birthed in during the Rabat Islamic Summit in Morocco, after a fire incident in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

It has 57 member states spread across four continents: Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

The OIC acts as the common voice for the Moslem world and protects the interests of member states while promoting international peace and harmony, the world over.
