The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, capital of Morocco will host the final clash of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations this Sunday January 18, 2025 at 8pm.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal will face off with the host, the Atlas Lions of Morocco in front of 68 thousand spectators, a majority being the home crowd of the Moroccan side.

Both sides will be aspiring for a second AFCON trophy.
While Senegal is seeking to shine again after their 2021 exploits in Cameroon, Morocco is striving to break a half century myth and rewrite the country’s name in gold after their 1976 experience.

Morocco came close to the trophy during the 2004 edition when they finished as runners up.

Senegal on their part were runners-up in 2002 and 2019 before finally grabbing their first AFCON title in 2021 when they defeated Egypt on penalties in the final.

Both sides have made a remarkable performance through the AFCON2025 with Morocco being the best defense with only one goal conceded and nine scored. The team remains unbeaten in open play throughout the tournament, with four wins and two draws; one in the knockout stage which was decided by penalties.
Morocco’s Brahim Díaz is currently the top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals to his name.

Senegal on the other hand is the best attack with 12 goals scored and two conceded. The Teranga Lions are so far undefeated with one draw and have won five of their six matches, scoring in every game.
The team’s key figure is Sadio Mané who has scored two goals and provided three assists in the tournament.

Prior to this Sunday’s encounter, Morocco has taken the lead in the previous five head to head confrontations with Senegal winning all of the encounters.

Will the Teranga Lions of Senegal increase their goal tally and carry the day or will the Atlas Lions of Morocco’s defense block the Senegalese onslaught and give the home crowd the glory they have been eagerly awaiting, only after the final whistle will the new Africa champions be known.
