In a thrilling matchup, the Wild Beasts of the Central African Republic made history by qualifying for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for the first time. Despite a dominant first-half displayed by the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon, the Wild Beasts showcased their resilience and determination to secure a coveted spot in the CHAN 2024 tournament.
The Intermediate Lions of Cameroon took an early lead courtesy of a goal from Angel Yondjo of Brasseries Football Academy, which competes in the Littoral Regional League. However, the Wild Beasts refused to back down, with Jerede Ndokomanji equalizing from the penalty spot and setting the tone for a fiercely contested match.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon were unable to capitalize, much to the frustration of their fans. Armand Talom, a disappointed supporter, attributed the team’s lackluster performance to a lack of fighting spirit. “The coach did his part, but the players lost morale after the equalizer,” Talom lamented.
The Wild Beasts, however, seized the initiative, with Bertillon Arnold scoring the decisive goal that sealed their qualification for the CHAN 2024. The tournament, scheduled to take place in February 2025, will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania this will be the first time three African countries are hosting the CHAN tournament.
This historic achievement marks a significant milestone for the Central African Republic’s football team after beating Cameroon for the first time in an international competition. Thier fans will undoubtedly be eager to see them make their mark on the continental stage.
