Fifty girls from secondary schools in Yaounde are set to stand their grounds and ascertain their future amid hurdles.

The girls received lessons on this and more during the launch of the Cameroon chapter of the Africa Women Summit (AWS) and the Girl Child Summit (GCS) this 18th November, 2024 in Yaounde.

With theme of focus being, “Unlocking Potential: Empowering African Women and Girls to Soar”, the girls divided into four groups discussed on four major topics:

1. Health and wellbeing: Here, they were educated on menstrual hygiene, mental health, and nutrition.

2. Overcoming gender stereotypes: Lessons in this group centred on addressing societal expectations and promoting gender equality.

3. Empowerment through education: Access to quality education as well as overcoming barriers in education were raised, including the importance of literacy.

4. Self-esteem and confidence building: This group focused on self-love and confidence enhancement.

At the end of the session, the girls left enlightened on the important place they occupy and society.

They also reassured the members of the Cameroon chapter of the Africa Women Summit of their readiness to overcome all stereotypes surrounding women.

It was a joyful President of the AWS Cameroon Chapter, Quinta Rita Edang, satisfied with the outcome of this meeting.

She also used the forum to present her executive bureau to members.
