Key challenges in the construction and maintenance of pavements for national road projects have been evaluated this 11th November 2024 in a meeting the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi had with engineers, geotechnical experts, and senior officials in the sector.
The need to expand pavement dimensions in ongoing road projects was raised.
Discussions also focused on the the proper integration of geological data into pavement design.
Experts noted that each region of the country has unique geological characteristics, and selecting the right materials that align with these features is essential for ensuring the longevity and resilience of the infrastructure.
To a Civil Engineer, Francis Happi, the road is composed by different layers of materials so the basic idea is to use local material to reduce the cost of the road.
In this regard, the Ministry of Public Works wants to get the cost down and try to use local material, as much as possible.
As concerns proposals, the Civil Engineer says as Engineers, they are the ones who make the different calculations for the road so they are proposing to be allowed to identify these different materials to know exactly what type of material can be used to give the roads the best dimension.
