Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, officially launched the 24th Grand Prix Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour. The prestigious event brings together 63 cyclists from 11 clubs across 9 countries.
Participating Teams
Host nation Cameroon fields two teams: the national team and SNH Vélo Club, led by experienced cyclist Clovis Kamzong Abessolo, fresh from their victory in the 30th Côte d’Ivoire Tour. Egypt makes its debut, while Belgium and Nigeria return after a hiatus. Reigning champions Algeria, led by star cyclist Yacine Hamza, aim to defend their title.
At the MINTA ceremonial grounds, competitors, officials, and dignitaries gathered. Notable attendees included:
– Race Commissioner Philippe Lambert (France)
– Nicolas Philippon (France) for Photo Finish
– Mayor of Minta, Salomon Mout Abalang
Mayor Abalang praised the government for selecting Minta as the event’s host and thanked local elites for their support.
The cyclists will cover 100km from Nkoteng to Minta, passing through Nanga Eboko in lap one, scheduled for this Tuesday.
With a strong field of international competitors, this year’s Grand Prix Chantal Biya promises thrilling action. Concerns have been raised whether Algeria will retain their title or will another team rise to the challenge.
