1030 laureates will be awarded academic palms this 2024.
The Secretary of State to the Minister of Secondary Education in charge of Teacher Training, Boniface Bayaola, made this announcement while presiding over the 10th Session of the National Council for the Award of Academic Palms this 13th September 2024 in the conference hall of the Distance Education Centre in Yaounde.
Boniface Bayaola was presiding the session on behalf of the Chairperson of the Council, the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga.
Exceptionality of 2024 Session of Award of Academic Palms
Over the years, just the Officer and Knight grades existed, but in 2024, a new grade, Commander has been added to the list.
According to the Rapporteur of the day and Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat of the National Council for the Award of Academic Palms, Comfort Orock Agbor, there is an increase in the number of those who applied for academic palms this 2024 compared to 2023 (1407 vs 1894) with the introduction of the Commander grade.
She also notes that in 2014, 959 men applied against 454 women.
Division of Academic Palms by Grade
The MINESEC Secretary of State indicates that 30 laureates will be awarded the grade of Commanders, 300 for Officers and 700 Knights.
On his part, the Inspector-General of Services at the Ministry of Secondary Education, Fidelis Akat Etta insisted that just meritorious persons will be awarded following the set-down rules.
