The Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB), Philémon ZOO ZAME says public authorities are looking into the situation of continuous deterioration in the quality of mobile electronic communications services offered by mobile telephone operators MTN Cameroon, ORANGE Cameroon and CAMTEL to subscribers of their 2G/3G/4G networks.
He was speaking in a communique released on 11th September 2024.
The TRB boss also noted that about from improving maintenance conditions for the national telecommunications network, they will also be rehabilitation work and an extension with a view to enhance performance.
What Really Happened?
Cameroonians have been complaining about poor network for internet and calls for some days now and the TRB DG points out the problem, “After a series of controls carried out by the TRB team, it appears that this disruption is caused by an insufficient supply of electrical energy as observed in their current networks and the difficulty of supplying the various technical sites infrastructure operators with fuel, especially in our major cities, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the multiple breaks in the optic fibre cables on certain segments of the national grid.”
Breakthrough Underway in Mobile Network Sector
The communique from the TRB indicates that technical teams of the operators MTN Cameroon and ORANGE Cameroon are working in the field with CAMTEL to ensure the restoration, as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the TRB has received instructions from the Government to carry out an operational audit of CAMTEL’s national optic fibre network.
While the operation is ongoing, the initial results of the audit according to Philémon ZOO ZAME shows that the national optic fibre infrastructure is in a state of continuous degradation and the current conditions of its maintenance need to be reassessed.
In the meantime, Cameroonians await a positive solution to the situation which at the moment has negative effects on individuals and businesses.
