The Ministry of Arts and Culture is actively working to support photographers and other artists through structured programs. These programs aim to provide practitioners with access to organizational support, streamlined administrative procedures, and financial assistance.

This announcement was made by Professor FAI Donatus during the commemorative activities for International Photography Day at the National Museum in Yaoundé. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a thriving arts community in Cameroon by providing artists with the resources they need to succeed.

Celebrating the Arts

The event featured an exhibition of photographs produced by photographers who participated in a competition launched earlier in the year. The competition challenged photographers to present pictures based on urban resilience.

The event provided an opportunity for the Ministry’s representative, Professor FAI Donatus, to assess various works of art. It also offered a platform for photographers to participate in workshops on topics such as photography in the digital age.

This year’s theme, “An Entire Day,” highlights the diverse ways photography connects us to different cultures, landscapes, and experiences. It encourages us to explore the world through the lens of others, fostering empathy and understanding.

Beyond the Snapshots

While capturing stunning landscapes and candid moments is a joy, photography is much more than just taking pictures. It’s a powerful tool for:

Documenting history:  Photography has preserved countless historical events, offering a glimpse into the past and reminding us of the importance of preserving our heritage.

Raising awareness:  Photojournalism plays a crucial role in highlighting social injustices, environmental issues, and human rights violations, sparking conversations and driving action.

Inspiring creativity:   Photography empowers individuals to express themselves creatively, explore their artistic vision, and share their unique perspectives with the world.

Photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s about seeing the world in a new light, capturing moments that matter, and sharing stories that inspire. Happy International Photography Day!
