As the results of the BAC and GCE Advanced Level exams are released, successful candidates are eager to pursue professional training in various universities and vocational institutes across Cameroon. Among the emerging fields of interest is maritime technology, a sector crucial to the country’s development.

In response to the growing demand for skilled maritime experts, the Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, has announced a competitive entrance examination for the 2024/2025 academic year at the National Advanced School of Maritime and Ocean Science and Technology (NASMOST) at the University of Ebolowa.

The examination, to be held in eight cities across Cameroon, aims to recruit 500 students for the first year of the Engineering Training Programme in two specialties:

1. Maritime and Oceanographic Sciences and Technology (300 students)
2. Sciences of Maritime and Port Management (200 students)

According to the ministry’s communiqué, successful civil servants or workers will contribute to the training costs, while international candidates endorsed by their governments will be accepted under the same academic requirements.

The Maritime Institute, established by Decree No. 2022/009 on January 6, 2022, is the only higher education institution in Cameroon providing training for engineers and senior managers in maritime and para-maritime professions.

The maritime sector plays a vital role in the global economy, encompassing activities such as fishing, shipbuilding, maritime transport, oceanography, and more. NASMOST offers initial training at the operational level, as well as continuing and refresher training, with a focus on professionalization and entrepreneurial skills development.
