Mayor of Belo, Ngong Innocent journeys to eternity

A funeral ceremony has been organized in Yaounde to pay tribute to the late Mayor of Belo, Ngong Innocent who died on May 20, 2024.

His journey to eternity started on the 20th May on his way to the grand stand for the National Day celebration.  A group of terrorist attacked the Late Mayor’s car and shot him alongside the inspector of Basic Education.

Eulogies at  the event indicated that before his demise, the the late Mayor was excited to host the celebration in his Sub-Division, Belo in a peaceful environment.

The funeral ceremony was attended by several officials, including the President of the 79th United Nations General Assembly and former Cameroonian Prime Minister, Philemon Yang. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Linda Yang.

The Interim Mayor of Belo highlighted the importance for a change in Belo. She urged the people of Belo to leave aside their differences and come together in one voice in other to foster peace and development that the late Mayor stood for.

“His departure is indeed the departure of a true heroe”  Senator Fointama Hilda said during the funeral ceremony.

His Political Journey

Dr Ngong Innocent Ankiambom was born in Baingo, Belo Sub Division of Boyo Division in 1978. He was the fifth of Nawain Helen Bih Ngong and Bobe Joseph Ngong Wainchom’s family. He was raised by a devoted Baptist Christian mother and church leader. Dr Innocent got Baptized in Baingo Baptist Church in 1990.

He was the bass man and drummer in Musang Baptist Church from 1993 to 1997. By 2009 he became a member of Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church. By the time of his unfortunate demise he was a member of Nkolmeseng Baptist Church in Yaounde.

Ngong Innocent developed interest in politics and joined party politics as a CPDM member in 2009. He rose steadily as a politician from a Cell president of CPDM at Antusi, Baingo in 2009, to Branch president in 2010.

He held the position of Subsection president of Baingo 2, Boyo 2, in 2011. In 2013 he was invested CPDM deputy mayor. He returned to his office of Subsection President for Baingo, Boyo 2, Belo in 2015.

In 2020, in the heat of the socio-political crisis, Dr Ngong Innocent Ankiambom got elected as the first CPDM Mayor of Belo Council.
