Kribi: Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute Inaugurates CIMPOR Cement Factory

The CIMPOR cement factory which has been operating in Cameroon since 2022 has been officially commissioned by Cameroon’s Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute.

The Prime Minister on behalf of the President of the Republic cut the inaugural ribbon at the company’s headquarters in the Kribi port and industrial area, in the South Region this Friday, July 19, 2024.

Members of the government, Senators, members of the National Assembly and the civil society converged on the site to salute the inauguration of the CIMPOR cement facility.

They were joined by Turkish consular officials and those from cimpor global.

Singing and dancing by the population spiced the event that saw several persons took to the rostrum to hail the construction of the cement factory.

The Mayor of Kribi described the plant as a fulfilment of a promise made by the Head of State to transform the town into an industria zone and rejoiced over the employment opportunities it brings.

The General Manager of the Kribi port authority which hosts the cement company, lauded President Paul Biya’s vision for the port complex affirming that it is becoming the exact industrial development pole.

Oyak and Cimpor international CEO, Suat Çalbiyik for his part, reaffirmed his company’s faith in Cameroon and said Cimpor will contribute to industrial development in the strict respect of environmental norms.

Opportunities

The Prime Minister – Head of Government in his keynote, said the advent of the Cimpor cement factory with a capacity of eight hundred thousand tonnes of cement per year, helps to consolidate the import substitution policy inspired by the Head of State.

Joseph Dion Ngute said by using local materials in the production of its cement and reducing the importation of klinker by 40-50%, cimpor is in line with the import substitution policy.

He expressed the wish to see cimpor expand to other sectors in Cameroon.

The Head of Government reminded the population of the South that like other Regions of the country, they have benefitted hugely from state projects, and investments like roads, water and electricity facilities.

He said the intensification of the exploitation of iron ore and different minerals will further develope the socio economic power of the region.

The inauguration of the Cimpor cement factory in Kribi ended with a guided visit of the facility by the Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute in the company of dignitaries present.
