14th African Karate Zone 4 Competition in Yaoundé: Cameroon on the Spotlight

Cameroon emerged champion of the 14th African Zone Four Karate Competition that wrapped up on the 14th of July 2024 at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde.

Cameroon finished first with a total of 39 medals, 27 in gold, 7 Silver and 5 bronze and was followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo with 17 medals, 6 in Gold, 6 Silver and 5 bronze. Congo completed the podium with 10 medals, 3 in gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. Gabon followed with a total of 14 medals 2 gold, 8 in silver and 4 in bronze. Burundi had a total of 22 medals,14 in Silver and 8 in bronze. Chad had a total of 8 medals, 2 in silver and 6 in bronze, meanwhile Equatorial Guinea had just 1 bronze medal.

The competition brought together 7 African countries, who battled for medals. According to the President of the Cameroon Karate Federation, Bertin Ndongmo the Karate Championship enabled Cameroon to put themselves on the world map.

“We had an amazing performance, Cameroon won several medals. It is a win for the Cameroon Karate Federation, we want to thank the government, especially the ministry of Sports and Physical Education who enabled us to have this wonderful result” The President added.

Team Cameroon won all the cadet categories of the competition enabling them to emerge first on the general classification table.

“We want to thank all the countries who came to participate. We have to upgrade the Karate discipline in the country to ensure that Cameroon remain on the top” Bertin Ndongmo, President of Cameroon Karate Federation.

The Opening ceremony was presided by the Secretary General at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education Joseph Yerima.
