Digitalisation: Yaounde II University Gets Special Centre

Students of the University of Yaounde II in Soa will in the nearest future be able to receive lectures not just through physical means but also from a distance thanks to the inauguration of a digital development centre on the school campus this 13th May, 2024

The Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo inaugurated the building in the presence of the Rector of the University, Prof Richard Laurent Omgba.

The University Digital Development Centre is part of President Paul Biya’s higher education vision launched in 2016.

The digital centres, to be constructed in all eight state universities in Cameroon and one at the Université Inter-Etat de Sangmelime, aims at interconnecting all universities in Cameroon to the National supervisory centre of the inter-university network.

Specificities of the Centre

The University Digital Development Centre of the University of Yaounde will be an avenue to promote distance education and digitized courses. Hence, students can follow classes physically, online, hybridly or remotely l.

The centre consists of:

– A 40-capacity smart classroom for students
– A teacher live room where teachers will record classes.
– A data centre for saving data and manage networks.
– A video conference room where lecturers could also exchange with their colleagues without travelling across towns.
