Preparations are gearing up towards celebrating and promoting the family as a special nucleus in the Cameroonian society.
Discussions towards this took centre stage in the first preparatory meeting organised at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family prior to the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family on May 15, 2024.
Chairing the session on behalf of the Minister, the interim Secretary General, Alain Symphorien Ndzana Biloa highlighted the importance of this first meeting.
He explained that the meeting will set the pace for activities in build up to the D-Day, May 15, 2024.
On her part, the Director in charge of the Promotion and Protection of the Family and the Rights of the Child at the Ministry, Francisca Moto explained that since this year the celebration is not focused on the day of families but the year of families, the theme cuts across various aspects of family life in the society.
One of the Partners to the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Juste Emmanuel Lingom used the forum to announce that his organisation plans on organising a buffet to bring together members of various families on May 11, 2024, as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the International Year of Families.
He explained that the idea stems from the fact that family members, over the years, do not get to meet so he wants this to happen through this grand buffet in Yaounde. Families interested in this idea are called upon to get registered ahead of the grand meeting.
The meeting ended after close to two hours of deliberations with the next rendezvous set for April 17, 2024.
